Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
